Feedback and Engagements
The 41st Australasian Universities Building Education Association (AUBEA) conference was held in early July at RMIT University in Melbourne.
AUBEA is the peak body promoting and improving teaching and research in building within the university sector. The conference audience predominantly represents university researchers, senior lecturers and post graduate students predominantly in building surveying and construction management degrees.
On the first day, our Director of Education, Clare Wright led a discussion with conference delegates in a session about “Supporting the NCC with Education”. She highlighted the important work underway to improve NCC compliance and understanding through improved digitisation, readability and education. Feedback was sought from the audience on education specific initiatives including NCC support materials; the NCC Course Portal; opportunities for students; and input into university curricula.
“Industry and relationships” was the focus of the second day with four industry-based keynote speakers presenting about various local infrastructure and construction projects. Of special interest was the high density residential development currently being constructed on the same city block as the RMIT conference location.
The last day of the conference saw the final research papers presented, concluding a wide variety of research being carried out in the construction related fields. Over the duration of the conference, over 60 papers were presented to Australian and international delegates.
Feedback from delegates was very positive with a strong interest in learning more about the NCC support materials and about how AUBEA and the ABCB can better work together into the future.
