  1. What browsers are supported for the National Construction Code (NCC) Online?
    • Internet Explorer 8 (PC & Mac) and above;
    • Mozilla Firefox 6 (PC & Mac with native SVG support) and above ;
    • Opera 11 (PC & Mac with native SVG support); and
    • Safari 5.1 (PC & Mac with native SVG support).
    Google Chrome browser is not supported at this stage but may become available in the future. Support for issues encountered with the use of unsupported browsers cannot be provided by the ABCB.

  2. I can’t log in.
    • Check to see if your subscription is current from emails sent to you after purchasing the NCC or by contacting the ABCB Customer Support Centre.
    • Check that you are entering your username and password correctly. The best way is to copy and paste this information from the email sent to you when you purchased the access. This will avoid the confusion between ‘O’s’ and ‘0’s etc. If you do not know your login details, contact the ABCB Customer Support Centre on 1300 134 631 quoting your Customer Number.
    • Check that you have enough licenses available to log in as once you have reached your license count, no additional users will be able to log in until licenses are released by others logging out.
    • If you were using the Embedded URL method prior to the launch of the new website, then you need to modify the URL to the following:
      http://services.abcb.gov.au/abcbonline/doLogin.asp?login=Your Username&password=Your Password
      substituting the words Your Username and Your Password with the details supplied to you in the email supplied when you purchased the access.
  3. Why can't I see the diagrams?
    The diagrams in the NCC Online are Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) which allow for resizing without loss of quality. With the exception of Internet Explorer, the abovementioned supported browsers support SVG diagrams natively and do not require any additional software to be installed. Internet Explorer and older versions of the above supported browsers will require the SVG Viewer to be installed. Full information regarding the installation of the viewer is available in the Installing the SVG Viewer page. Support for non-supported browsers is limited and users are advised to upgrade to the supported versions to avoid potential issues in vieiwing the diagrams.

  4. The NCC Online logs me out.
    The NCC online will automatically end your session after 20 minutes of inactivity. This has been programmed this way to overcome users who use the ‘X’ button on browsers instead of the Logout function to exit the online site and thereby tie up licenses.

  5. How many users can log in to the NCC Online?
    The NCC Online is copyright of the Australian Building Codes Board and licenses must be purchased to access the site. Most publications include a single web license which allows a single user to access the site at a time. If you require multiple simultaneous accesses you need to purchase additional copies of the publication.

  6. How can I print from the NCC Online?
    The NCC Online is not formatted to be printed therefore all full access to the NCC Online comes with the Web Print function (the 12 and 30 day accesses are excluded). This function provides a pre-formatted PDF file for each part or section which can be printed in accordance with the licensing agreement and copyright requirements.  The PDF files will be watermarked with the organisation’s name.You will need the Adobe Reader to view the PDF files.

  7. Why do volumes sometimes appear with Preview in the 'select Volume' drop-down?
    Active customers are given the opportunity to view the next edition of the NCC 3 months prior to its adoption to allow them to prepare for any new requirements or changes to the code. The new volumes are marked with the word Preview to indicate that these are the new editions that aren't yet adopted into legislation.

  8. Can I copy the data and diagrams from the NCC Online?
    All text and diagrams in the NCC are copyrighted by the ABCB as per the following copyright statement: For any reproduction or duplication of the NCC for any purpose, written request should be forwarded to the:

    General Manager,
    GPO BOX 9839,
    Canberra ACT 2601

    or email ncc@abcb.gov.au

  9. Where can I find further information or clarification of the NCC requirements?
    Clarification of NCC clauses can be obtained from the ABCB. If further information is being sought for a particular project then your local council or Building Control Authority in your state or territory should be contacted. Details of these can be found here.
