Standards Coordination and Committees

ABCB participates in the development and maintenance of referenced documents, generally standards that form part of technical regulation in the Building Code of Australia.   The ABCB role is to ensure good regulation principles and regulatory review processes are followed for the development and maintenance of these referenced documents.  Including gate keeping that prevents regulatory creep and assessment of the impact of any changes to regulation on the community, business and competition.

This project is ongoing as technology changes and innovation introduce new methods and materials for buildings and government policy requires regular review and justification of all regulation including these referenced documents.

In this project ABCB co-ordinates with Standards Australia and other organisations that write reference documents and contribute to the committee processes that produce these documents.

Standards Australia and ABCB have a Memorandum of Understanding which underpins and supports the work of this project.   ABCB has a protocol that is to be followed for the development of these reference documents which includes an open and transparent process and requires thorough impact assessment of all changes.
