NCC Essentials is coming

A concept of tradesman building their skills through successful completion of proper education

The ABCB is launching a new ABCB educational resource called NCC Essentials.

NCC Essentials is an educational resource managed by the ABCB that provides a range of presentations on NCC related topics for educators and students in the building and construction industry. These presentations aim to introduce building and construction industry practitioners and students to the NCC and to practically apply it.

If this sounds familiar to you, you’re right! NCC Essentials is a rebranding of the current NCC Tutor educational product. We’ve changed the name as we believe it reflects the nature of the information provided – and we have big plans for the future of our NCC Tutor brand. Unlike NCC Tutor however, there are no licencing requirements for accessing NCC Essentials.

What’s inside

NCC Essentials are delivered in a PowerPoint presentation format, consisting of assessment questions and lecture notes. Topics include:

  • Using the NCC
  • NCC: A Performance-based Code
  • NCC Volume One
  • NCC Volume One Disability Access
  • NCC Volume One Energy Efficiency
  • NCC Volume One Fire Safety
  • NCC Volume Two
  • NCC Volume Two Energy Efficiency
  • NCC Volume Three
  • Australian Regulatory Framework for Building and Plumbing.

When will NCC Essentials be available?

From mid-June 2020 through the Resources Library, NCC Essentials will be free to download.

A new future for NCC Tutor

The ABCB is planning a redesign of its NCC Tutor education products for the VET and higher education sectors to provide more student-centred educational resources about the NCC. The ABCB is also considering tailoring the redeveloped product to meet selected Australian Quality Framework (AQF) levels.

The new education products will likely have an expanded number of modules that are shorter in length ('micro-modules'), compared to the current NCC Tutor. Modules will likely focus on more specific sections and parts in each of the three NCC Volumes.

It is anticipated that the first tranche of the new NCC Tutor modules will be launched by the end of this year.
