Background information
We have released the National Construction Code (NCC) 2025 preview, providing early access to the next edition before the full NCC 2025 publication. Jurisdictions can consider adoption from 1 May 2026.
The preview reflects updates informed by public consultation and expert technical review. The preview gives practitioners the opportunity to understand the changes that may apply in their jurisdiction when adoption decisions are made.

The Australian Building Codes Board has released the NCC 2025 preview. All volumes are now accessible in PDF format at ncc.abcb.gov.au, where users can view or download the documents.
Key updates include:
• better water management provisions in Volume One
• strengthened carpark fire safety measures
• enhanced commercial energy efficiency requirements
• improved condensation mitigation guidance
• optional all‑gender sanitary facilities
• enhanced requirements for structural reliability and fire safety Performance Solutions.
Some proposed changes for NCC 2025 will not proceed, including residential energy efficiency updates, EV‑charging readiness provisions and fire separation of roofed outdoor areas.
NCC 2025 will be published online on 1 May 2026. Jurisdictions can consider adoption of NCC 2025 from this date.
