The Australian Building Codes Board, on behalf of the Treasury, is pleased to welcome our new Chief Executive Officer, Adrian Piani.

Adrian brings 27 years of public and private sector experience working across the built and natural environments, including as ACT Chief Engineer. In that role, Adrian provided the ACT Government with strategic advice on infrastructure and led the delivery of a number of significant infrastructure projects. Most recently, Adrian led GHD’s federal government portfolio where he was responsible for engagement across a range of sectors including property, water, environment and transport.

Some of Adrian’s career highlights include:

  • Standing up the ACT Government’s program to electrify its property portfolio.
  • Developing and implementing the ACT Government cladding rectification scheme.
  • Supporting the Australian Governments $12.9 Billion Water for the Future program.

Adrian joins the ABCB at a pivotal time as we progress important projects including the voluntary certification scheme for manufacturers of prefabricated construction, publication of NCC 2025 and more. Adrian is committed to continuing and building on our current work. He will also focus on new opportunities for innovation, collaboration with industry and other stakeholders, and modernisation of the NCC.

Adrian has had a long involvement with industry through his work career as a private consultant, the ACT Chief Engineer, and as an active participant in industry associations. Adrian is a strong believer in the value that infrastructure provides to community wellbeing, and excited by the opportunity to work with all stakeholders across the built environment sector to deliver national benefit.

Outside of work, Adrian enjoys fly fishing in the Snowy Mountains, occasionally playing golf well, and supporting the mighty Collingwood Magpies.

We would like to acknowledge Judith Blake who acted in the role from May 2025. We thank Judith for her leadership, dedication, and the positive impact she made during her time at the ABCB.

Thank you for your continued support during this transition. We’re looking forward to Adrian leading the ABCB into the future.

Please join us in welcoming Adrian to the team.
