Meeting opening and administrative matters

  • The meeting opened with Acknowledgement of Country.
  • The Board noted attendance, apologies, and disclosure of interests and any potential or actual conflicts related to matters on the agenda.
  • The Board dealt with administrative matters, received reports from the Chair and Chief Executive Officer and received jurisdictional updates.

Strategic matters

Contribution to housing productivity and reform

The Board discussed the opportunities to support improvements in housing and construction productivity, in line with broader national competition policy priorities. Members explored a range of reform ideas, including ways to simplify and enhance the usability of the National Construction Code (NCC), improve access and guides to technical information, and leverage digital tools. 

The Board discussed how reform could be approached in stages to deliver on priorities and agreed to consolidate its productivity ideas to provide input to inform future ministerial discussions.

NCC 2025 finalisation

The Board discussed the status of the next edition of the NCC, including planning for advice to be provided to the Building Ministers’ Meeting on proposed timeframes for publication, preview and adoption. Members considered how best to support ministerial decision-making by providing clear information on the nature and potential impacts of proposed changes.

ABCB budget status and planning

The Board considered early planning for the upcoming financial year, including budget development and strategic priorities. The importance of aligning activities with available funding was noted, along with the need to clearly communicate the value of the ABCB’s work. The Board also discussed the importance of ensuring funding is used to support ministerial priorities.
